The City of Liverpool College University Centre ran their final ‘Step into HE’ event of the year in June. This was an exciting information and guidance session for learners who are studying English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and hoping to progress onto university-level study in the future. Over 25 learners attended the socially-distanced session to find out more about realising their aspirations.
We were privileged to have two guest speakers at the event who were former students at the City of Liverpool College. Both students had started their journeys in English at a basic level and progressed through GCSEs and onto Access to Higher Education courses at the College before successfully apply for degree-level study at university.
It was inspiring to hear about their journeys and they were able to offer words of encouragement to learners studying English to keep aspiring towards their university futures. Leaners were keen to hear the former students’ ‘top tips’ about strengthening their university applications and succeeding in their studies.
After the event, leaners were able to get one-to-one advice to help plan their own journeys to university, including the options available to them to stay at the College by studying at our University Centre. Many were able to seek advice from our Student Finance Officer about the funding and support available to help them realise their ambitions.
We’re excited to support them on their journeys next academic year and beyond!
