LIPA and LJMU, supported by Edge Hill University and Liverpool Hope University, offered online adaptations of our previous Performing Arts and Creative Arts projects for Shaping Futures schools during 2020/21. These projects aim to raise awareness and understanding of higher education options and career routes related to the creative industries.
Four schools took part in the Performing Arts project (December 2020) and a further three schools participated in the Creative Arts project (July 2021). Participants received live workshops and access to recorded sessions from contributing university partners across a range of creative subjects. As part of the Performing Arts project, schools also received a package from Panto Online allowing them to watch an online pantomime performance alongside additional workshops by industry professionals. Several Creative Arts project sessions were delivered by Tidal Town Theatre company, giving participants further exposure to graduates making their career within the arts.
The teacher feedback from those involved in these two projects strongly suggested (100% of responses received) that participation had contributed to pupils’ understanding of higher education and how school subjects can help them prepare for the future, as well as increasing knowledge about professional roles for those interested in creative careers.
